About the FIRE calculator

FIRE — Financial Independence, Retire Early — is reached when your investments are large enough that a safe yearly withdrawal covers your living costs forever. This calculator finds that target (your FIRE number), the monthly SIP that gets you there by your chosen age, and a year-by-year picture of the journey.

Everything updates as you type: change your retirement age, expected return, or monthly spending and watch the corpus, readiness bar, and timeline react. Your inputs stay on your device.

The formula

FIRE corpus = 25 × annual expenses at retirement. Expenses are inflated from today's value: spending ₹50,000/month today at 6% inflation becomes about ₹1.6 lakh/month in 20 years — the corpus is sized for that future number, not today's.

Worked example

Age 25, retiring at 45, spending ₹50,000/month today: the target is roughly ₹4.8 crore. Starting from zero at a 12% return, that needs a SIP of about ₹48,000/month flat — or less if you step it up yearly with salary growth.

What you get

Your FIRE number (and its today's-money equivalent), the recommended monthly SIP, your projected wealth at retirement, a funding gap if one exists, and a year-by-year table of salary, expenses, investments, and net worth.

Frequently asked questions

How is my FIRE number calculated?

We take the monthly spending you want after retirement, grow it with inflation until your retirement age, then apply the 4% rule — a corpus of 25× your yearly spending. Withdrawing 4% a year from that corpus has historically outlasted a 30-year retirement.

Do I need an account to use the FIRE calculator?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser and saves your inputs locally on your device. Creating a free account only adds cloud sync, so your plan follows you across devices.

What return and inflation assumptions should I use?

Long-run equity-heavy portfolios have averaged 10–12% per year in India (7–10% in the US), and Indian consumer inflation has averaged about 6%. The calculator lets you set both, and being conservative — a lower return, a higher inflation — gives you a safety margin.

What is a Growing SIP (step-up SIP)?

A SIP you increase every year, typically in line with salary growth. Because your biggest contributions come later at a higher base, a step-up SIP can reach the same corpus with a much smaller starting amount.

Is the result guaranteed?

No — it is a projection based on the assumptions you enter, not a guarantee of investment returns. Markets vary year to year. Use it to compare scenarios and set a savings target, and revisit it as your numbers change.
