What is FIRE?

Financial Independence, Retire Early.

Build a corpus big enough that 4% of it per year covers your expenses forever. Once your investments out-earn your spending, work becomes optional. That's FIRE.

  • Target corpus = 25× your annual expenses.
  • Save aggressively. 50%+ of take-home is the gold standard.
  • Index-heavy SIPs. Time in the market beats timing the market.
  • Plan for inflation. ₹50k today will feel like ₹1.6L in 20 years.

FAQ

FIRE calculator & retirement planning, answered

What is a FIRE calculator?

A FIRE calculator estimates the corpus you need to reach financial independence and retire early, plus the monthly SIP to get there — based on your expenses, expected return, and inflation. Fire Finance projects it year by year up to age 90.

How much money do I need to retire early?

A common rule is 25× your annual expenses — the 4% safe-withdrawal rule. For ₹60,000 a month of expenses that is roughly ₹1.8 crore in today’s money. Fire Finance calculates your exact, inflation-adjusted FIRE number.

How do I calculate my FIRE number?

Multiply your expected annual retirement expenses by 25, then inflate that to your retirement age. Fire Finance does this automatically and recommends the SIP and expected return you need to reach your target.

Is Fire Finance really free?

Yes. The FIRE calculator, investment tracker, goals planner, budget planner, and net-worth tracker are free forever. Pro adds the retirement income simulator, scenario comparison, and branded PDF export.

Can I plan FIRE in India with rupees?

Yes. Fire Finance works in INR and USD, models SIPs and step-up SIPs across equity, debt, and gold, and uses assumptions suited to Indian investors, including inflation and long-term capital gains.

Can I plan goals like a house or car alongside retirement?

Yes. The Goals Planner sizes an inflation-adjusted target and the monthly SIP for each goal — house, car, education — so they run in parallel with your retirement plan.
